DUNDEE: Taxi stoned by yobs

Outrage over Ardler stoning attack on taxi

An Ardler resident today expressed outrage and concern over what he says is the growing number of incidents involving out-of-control youths across Dundee and the Tayside area (writes April Mitchinson).
John Bisset, Turnberry Avenue, spoke out after witnessing a gang of youths attack a silver Mondeo taxi, intimidating the driver, as it travelled down Dalmahoy Drive at around 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Mr Bisset dialled 999 after seeing the attack, which involved four youths throwing stones at street lights before turning on the taxi.

“Recently there has been a spate of attacks on people and property by gangs of unruly youths,” Mr Bisset said.

“I am alarmed at the kind of behaviour which is being reported and which I have seen first hand.

“I was worried the taxi driver was going to be attacked.”

Mr Bisset said he believed thugs were using an area near where Tuesday night’s incident happened as a drug den.

“I think they are under the influence of something and the situation is snowballing.”

A Tayside Police spokeswoman confirmed the incident took place, but said the taxi driver was not hurt.

“A stone was thrown at a taxi by four youths. When the driver got out to see if his car was damaged the youths ran off towards Troon Gardens,” she said.

“Officers attended, but the driver did not wish to make a formal complaint to police.”

Anyone who can identify those responsible or has information about the incident can call Tayside Police on Dundee 223200.
