Eleven arrests during anti-social behaviour crackdown (Wigan)

Eleven people have been arrested as part of a crackdown on anti-social behaviour across Wigan and Leigh.

Operation Challenge, which ran for six weeks from July to September, was launched as a multi-agency initiative to address the problem of youth nuisance and criminal damage during the summer school holiday period.

Police carried out high-visibility patrols between 6pm and 11pm at weekends in hotspot areas including Beech Hill, Platt Bridge, Hindley and Golborne to gather intelligence on offenders and reassure communities.

A selection of leaflets were also given to young people informing them of constructive activities on offer during the summer months.

As well as the 11 arrests, police carried out 107 stop checks and issued 10 fixed penalty notices and five street warnings.

Officers also made over 150 alcohol confiscations and carried out 14 test purchases with Trading Standards to ensure licensed premises weren’t selling alcohol to under 18s.

In addition, police passed on the details of 440 young people engaging in anti-social behaviour to the council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Unit and ordered five people to sign acceptable behaviour contracts.

Inspector Liz Sanderson of Wigan Police said: “Throughout Operation Challenge we drove home the message that any form of anti-social behaviour would not be tolerated.

“Thanks to the vigilance and hard work of officers involved, several offenders were taken off the streets and prevented from either intimidating people or damaging public property. We will continue to run operations of this kind to ensure residents can enjoy a good quality of life in the borough.”

The Police are superb re ASB but Wigan Housing have written wonderful policies on how to handle ASB......only they forgot to tell their staff.
Our care by them is atrocious and we are still waiting for them to issue Verbal and Written warnings they promised last week. .
Personally i want my THUG of a neighbour slapped with an Injunction so he cannot bar our exits and entrances as he does with his large frame and stick as a weapon and abusive mouth. This MUST be a crime to hold against their will. Housing will not answer any questions, as if its all to do with someone else.

They can abuse my Data Protection which was breached on the 19th June. They can also breach article 8 Respect for Privacy etc on all counts. BUT i am not allowed to know the surname of the perpetrators.
Because of him and Housing we are very afraid and live like prisoners in our flat.
We no longer use the garden we spent in excess of £7000 on in the last 12 months. Planning dept are not acting on our request for raising gate and fence and adding a latticework frame to give us more privacy close to the neighbours window. It will only cover 1ft of his huge window.
We cannot cope with the abuse from him and now from another who was a friend. He has alienated us from our friends- they too now screeching at us for upsetting the NICE man they thought was unpleasant two weeks ago.
Shame this man couldnt be arrested for his abuse , its only because you cannot see the damage. Most of it is inside apart from an injury to myself that is probably permanent and the poisoning of my dog ( No Proof)
My husbands seizures are far worse causing untold physical damage.
Perhaps someone out there will read this and want to open up online. We need to be reporting everything.
These people should never get away with it. The Local Authorities and those who abuse openly.
STOP HATE CRIME.......They are pond life, scum on the ponds and certainly sub human
