ST.ALBANS: Anti-social crackdown

Anti-social crackdown

SEVEN arrests have been made in a police crackdown on anti-social behaviour in St Albans.

Three penalty notices and two warnings for drugs were also issued in the operation carried out by the St Albans Neighbourhood Team in the Marshalswick and Jersey Farm areas of the city on the weekend of September 22.

Three youths were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, obstructing police and assaulting a police officer at Tesco Express in St Brelade's Place. They have since been released on bail.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area between 2.50pm and 4pm on that Saturday who may have seen a group of youths in a grey Toyota Aygo behaving anti-socially.

Two other youths were arrested at St Albans City Station on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs. An 18-year-old was remanded in custody and a 17-year-old remains on bail.

A 28-year-old man from St Albans was arrested and given a fixed penalty notice for using threatening words and behaviour in Civic Close. He was also issued with a warning for possessing a small quantity of cannabis.

A 35-year-old St Albans man was arrested for shoplifting and was bailed to return to the police station at a later date.

Two further penalty disorder notices were issued and one other cannabis warning.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Jamie Bartlett said: "This operation is a fine example of police officers and PCSOs responding to concerns from local residents and councillors and dealing positively with anti-social behaviour.

"These types of operations will be repeated in the future."
