GOUROCK: Bus trash yobs ruin tots day

Bus trash yobs ruin tots day

WINDOW WOE: Tots from the Gamble Children’s Centre can’t
hide their disappointment at their trashed bus.

MINDLESS vandals ruined a day out for nursery kids by smashing their minibus.

The tots, from Gamble Children’s Centre in Gourock’s King Street, were all set for a trip to Lunderston Bay — but were stopped in their tracks when staff discovered thugs had trashed the nursery bus.

Margaret Sutherland, of the children’s centre, said: “It is total mindless vandalism. How could somebody do that when it is obvious it is a nursery bus? The children were not very happy when they found out.”

The thugs smashed a window, showering the inside of the bus with glass and leaving the tots stranded with no way to enjoy their day out.

One of the nursery class, Emily Norris, four, told the Tele: “It’s not very nice to smash our window.”

Her friend, Scott Gage, also four, added: “It’s wrong to break a window. You are not supposed to do it.”

Nursery head Margaret added: “The bus was parked on Shore Street overnight and one of our staff, who lives locally, looked out her window when she got up and spotted the damage. It is so inconvenient and takes us away from what we are supposed to be doing. The children were supposed to go to Lunderston this afternoon and now we won’t be able to take them.

“It’s not just the window that needs replaced — we have to clean up all the smashed glass inside. We had to call our driver Roy in early too and it has disrupted everything.”

As well as ruining the little ones’ outing, the neds’ idiotic antics meant the regular after—school care run at the nursery was also affected, as staff rushed to organise repairs to the bus.

Margaret said: “Children from the three primary schools are supposed to be using the bus later. We are a voluntary sector nursery and our parents pay for the upkeep of the bus, so there is a knock—on effect. But the vandals don’t think about that.”

A police spokesman said: “We can confirm a window was smashed on a van belonging to the children’s centre and we are appealing for witnesses.”

Anyone with information should call Greenock Police on 492500.
