ULVERSTON: Good deed for woman after yob attack on car

Good deed for woman after yob attack on car

AN Ulverston woman has hit out at vandals after her car was damaged in a wrecking spree.

To make matters worse, only hours later, Mary Giles, of Chapel House, Blawith, was also left with a flat tyre while in the centre of town.

But despite her bad experiences, Mary has praised two men who came to her aid and restored her faith in human kindness.

After vandals broke the wing mirrors of four cars parked on Hartley Street, Ulverston, on September 22, Mary slammed the vandals.

She said: “To the person who committed the original crime, maybe one day you will know how it feels to work hard to save up for your own car, be proud of it, and then see someone vandalise it. It is not very nice.”

Days later, Mary took her car to Young Bros garage in Ulverston to have the mirror repaired.

She said: “As it was electric, a new one would have cost too much. A very helpful chap came out and worked on the wing mirror until he repaired it, just like new, and would not think of taking a penny for it.

“Then a couple of hours later, my front tyre had a puncture and my car came to a standstill.

“I was frantically trying to find all I needed to change the tyre, when another knight in shining armour arrived.

“He helped change the tyre and turned my crisis into calm.

“Again this was done from the kindness of his heart.

“There are still wonderful, helpful people out there who will go out off their way to make this a better place to live.

“Thank you for restoring my faith.”

Dianne Young, officer manager at Young Bros, said: “It was Russell Young who helped the lady with the wing mirror.

“I think he felt sorry for her and it did not take him long to fix the wing mirror, so he didn’t want to charge.

“It was his good deed for the day.”
