A ONE-MAN crimewave has been banned from city car parks for three years.
Christopher Davies has been made the subject of an Anti- Social Behaviour Order because he can’t be trusted not to break into vehicles.
He is the first person to be banned from car parks in Cardiff after an application by police.
The 27-year-old admitted attacking more than 40 cars in city centre car parks including Knox Road NCP, mainly to steal satellite navigation systems which he sold to buy heroin.
He was identified on CCTV and when interviewed admitted breaking into cars to buy drugs.
Davies, of Tresillian Terrace, Butetown, had previously pleaded guilty at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, to a total of three thefts and one attempted theft.
He confessed to 40 other crimes and asked for them to be taken into consideration in order to “wipe the slate clean”.
Speaking after the hearing, Chief Inspector Steve Furnham said: “Davies was caught as a result of the increased police work in and around the NCP car parks.
“Having been caught and prosecuted we wanted to explore other measures to ensure that he didn’t repeat this criminal activity in the future.
“One of these considerations was the application for an Anti-Social Behaviour Order, which was successful.
“He was a prolific offender so not only will this be a punishment for him, but we expect to see a reduction in car crime in these areas.
“People think Asbos only apply to anti-social behaviour, which of course they do, but police in Cardiff will consider them in aspects of criminal behaviour such as car crime.”
As a result of the order, Davies must not enter any building or open space used for parking in Cardiff.
