MILTON OF CAMPSIE: Yobs make life a 'misery' for residents

Yobs make life a 'misery' for residents

CONCERNED residents say they are frightened to leave their homes at night - because of drunken yobs.
Villagers in Milton of Campsie say their lives are being made a misery by groups of rowdy teenagers.

One villager, who asked not to be named, said: "It's been a problem for a while, but it's really getting out of hand.

"Sometimes as many as 20 or 30 young people gather near our houses and sing sectarian songs, break bottles and throw stones at windows.

"There are times when we can't even walk out of our own driveway."
The 63-year-old says that the problems, centred around the Birdston Road area, have included cars being vandalism, assaults on visitors and gang fights.

Just over a week ago residents, including a disabled man, suffered a particularly upsetting attack.

The concerned resident said: "It was a Sunday night around 7pm. They started laughing and shouting, getting drunk and breaking bottles.

"Later they started running around the houses, kicking doors.

"They even broke an
elderly neighbour's front window. I called the police several times, but nobody came until I made an emergency 999 call."

Residents in the area say they have had enough and are calling for urgent police action to tackle the problem before the situation gets even more out of control.

The worried householder said: "I know we can't go back to the days of having a bobby on the beat, but we really need a police presence here to sort out the problems permanently.

"The troublemakers know fine well that the police aren't around and they play on that. When the police do turn up the youths scatter until they have gone, then come back later."

Communities Inspector Colin Cooper said: "I am aware of this resident's concerns and have had a dialogue with him.

"I have arranged a meeting with Councillor Charles Kennedy to talk about the problems in Milton of Campsie, as well as other issues."

It seems Milton Has the same problem as Lennoxtown and I feel the reason of these things happening is the lack of facilities for the young people to go too..a youth club that opens once or twice a week is no good..they need something permanent in both these ares like they have in croy twechar and milngavie..I am at present in talks with councillor kennedy to bring such an idea to life...fingers crossed.

I AGREE FULLY ON THE ASPECTS OF THIS SITUATION , I FEEL EXTREMELY AWARE OF THE PRESENCE OF THE YOUNGSTERS IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY , I HEAR THEM SHOUTIN ABUSE AT ME WHEN I WALK BY AS A LIMP BUT I CONTINUE ON MY JOURNEY AND STAY QUITE , IF ID TO TURN AND SAY SOMETHING I WOULD LIVE IN CONSTANT FEAR OF MY LIFE , WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF ? QUITE OFTEN I SEE THEM SMASHIN BOTTLES , SHOUTING AND BASICALLY BEING NUSENCES , MOST OF THE TIME I THINK THERE DRUGGED UP , IF THERE WAS JUST AN OUTLET , SOMEWHERE TO GO TO BURN OF THERE ENERGY , HAVE FUN , EVEN SOMEONE TO TALK TO ABOUT THERE PROBLEMS I FEEL REALY STRONGLY THAT THE WHOLE COMMUNITY WOULD BENIFIT FROM THIS AS IF IT CONTINUES LIKE THIS , THEY ARE JUST GOING TO FOLLOW THE WRONG ROAD AND BECOME DEADBEATS , WELL THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY AT THIS PRESENT MOMENT OF TIME , FAREWELL

MUAHAHAH MILTON BOYS .1 ;-D !!

The excuse of 'Lack of facilities' is really just a cop-out. The problem definately lies within families , family discipline is null and void now. There is also self discipline not to make a fool of yourself in public just because your mates do. It's all well and good to blame councils not spending millions (money they don't have to start with)in providing leisure facilities for anti-social youngsters that have gone off the rails but the parents have the responsibility to know where their offspring are. I remember being told never to bring the family name down and this was drummed into me everytime I went out , or suffer the consequences.
