TAUNTON MP Jeremy Browne has visited the Police Pod outside Taunton's Asda store to find out more about the new initiative to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

Mr Browne said: "Taunton's Asda shoppers will already be familiar with the new Police Pod on the right of the entrance to the store.

"The supermarket paid for the new facility, which is a great contribution for Asda to make to the local community.

"The Police Pod is helping to increase the visibility of the police across the Halcon, Lambrook and Priorswood areas of Taunton.

"It is important that the police and the community support officers are meeting the public rather than getting stuck behind their desks at the police station.

"The Police Pod is a suitable area for the police to take statements from anyone wanting to report a crime.

"The public can also pass on intelligence to the police without having the difficulty of making a formal visit to Taunton police station.

"I know the police welcome people visiting them outside Asda.

"They can provide advice on security and crime prevention, as well as responding to any offences being committed in the area.

"I welcome any initiative which helps the police to maintain a high-profile in the local community."
