The police and county council will be targeting truants with a series of patrols aimed at returning work-shy youngsters to the classroom.
The patrols, across the Watford and Three Rivers areas, are aimed at reducing youth crime and antisocial behaviour, and improving the education of affected children.
Area youth rime specialist PC Kim Boot said: "The safety of children is paramount and if they are not being supervised in school, they may not be in a safe environment "Any children found not to be in school will be taken to their school and their parents notified of their absence."
The operation will run throughout October.
