HEREFORD: Village's new hope

Village's new hope

Problems of anti-social behaviour and petty vandalism in Leintwardine were the subject of a special public meeting called by the parish council.

More than 70 residents turned up last Thursday along with representatives from Marches Housing Association and Herefordshire police.

People described what they felt to be anti-social behaviour that was causing distress to residents of the estate at Rosemary over the last year.

The meeting was organized by parish council chairman Richard Sudworth.

Councillor Sudworth was optimistic that the problems could be solved now that people knew they could work together.

"It was a successful meeting and it has given people hope. They feel empowered.

"The police have agreed to be more vigorous and pro-active."

Neil Tipton, spokesman for Herefordshire Police, said: "The police have received a small number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the Rosemary area of Leintwardine but we have been made aware of a number of further issues as a result of the parish council meeting.

"We have now secured further evidence and are working with partner agencies to address those issues."

"It remains important for the public to report incidents as they happen so that the full picture of any anti-social behaviour can be gained and evidence gathered.

"Villagers are also encouraged to speak to their local policing team with concerns and also update all partners to their current issues and concerns by using the PACT - Partners and Communities Together - postbox at Griffiths' Garage."
