Ambulance crews said reckless vandals could have put lives at risk after they smashed the windscreen of an emergency vehicle.
Youths are suspected of the attack in Chorley, Lancashire, in the early hours of Sunday morning, which put one emergency ambulance out of action during the night.

The ambulance had to be parked up in a garage after stone-throwing yobs struck at the station in North Street, Highfield Industrial Estate, at around 2.40am.

One member of staff, who asked not be named, said: "It's disgusting. It has taken a vehicle off the
road. If people do things like this then it is putting lives at risk."

Paramedic Mick Conlan, who was on duty at Chorley Ambulance Station on the industrial estate, said he and a colleague could not respond to a call-out because of the damage.

Mr Conlan, from Preston, had to radio through that his vehicle was out of action, and as the only other ambulance was already out on a job, the call had to be redirected.

He added: "We saw a rock of substantial size, maybe 10 inches, on the floor and then noticed the windscreen had been smashed.

"We normally park the ambulance outside the garage for a quicker response time. It will be up to the management if that now has to change."
