New fencing to help combat anti-social behaviour
NEW fencing could be constructed outside homes in Stanton Hill and Sutton as part of an initiative to reduce anti-social behaviour.
The move follows complaints from angry residents at Brand Court in Stanton Hill and The Oval in Sutton – who say their homes are being targeted by egg and bottle-throwing youngsters. Locals claim the existing fencing outside their homes is either too low or shields the offenders from view.
This week, Coun Jason Zadrozny, leader of Ashfield District Council, told Chad council bosses were currently looking at installing new crime-cracking fencing.
He said: "There are problems with regards to the fencing in these areas. In Stanton Hill the fencing in some places helps shield people from view and encourages anti-social behaviour.
"To combat this we have employed an architect who specialises in designing fencing which helps to reduce crime in various ways. We hope that this will have a positive impact in the coming months.
"Alongside this we are also looking at ways of tackling youth crime through better youth facilities to take them off the streets on a night. It is important we tackle the roots of the problems as well as the problems themselves."
