RICHMOND: Police begin two-week crackdown on bad behaviour

Police begin two-week crackdown on bad behaviour

Passengers will enjoy tightened security on buses as the Met Police carries out an intensive two-week crackdown on anti-social behaviour, crime and disorder.

The operation, named Goldfinger 2, started on Monday to tie in with the start of the new school term.

Officers from the Met Police's Transport Operational Command Unit (TOCU) are riding on buses across the capital to crack down on young people carrying out anti-social behaviour, theft, robbery and criminal damage on London's buses.

Superintendent David Wildbore, Transport Operational Command Unit, said: "Anti-social behaviour creates an intimidating atmosphere for passengers and increases the fear of crime. Operation Goldfinger 2 is about continuing to reduce this anti-social behaviour, and increasing public safety and confidence."

Funded by Transport for London, extra police officers, traffic community officers and Safer Neighbourhoods Teams are on the buses during the day and early evenings.

Hounslow is among 20 London boroughs selected for the extra patrols. Security on buses in neighbouring boroughs, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham, has also been tightened as part of Goldfinger 2.

As part of the two-week initiative Transport for London Revenue Protection Officers are also carrying out static and mobile inspections to check for fare evasion and to ensure passengers have paid the correct fare for their journey. Penalty fares and notices of potential prosecution are being issued on the spot.
