SUNDERLAND: Yobs attack teen model

Yobs attack teen model

A SCHOOLGIRL'S career as a model was put on hold when she was attacked by teen yobs binge-drinking in a park.

The 16-year-old from Sunderland, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was just 15 when she was confronted by the gang in Roker Park.

One of the yobs, a 16-year-old schoolgirl who cannot be named on the orders of the judge at Newcastle Crown Court, complimented the model on her looks.

Moments later she and another girl, Fiona Ball, 18, of Whickham St East, Roker, Sunderland, challenged her to a fight.

The 16-year-old, also of Roker, said no and tried to get away but was kicked and punched to the ground.

Prosecuting, Barry Robson said: "Fiona Ball then straddled her and punched her in the face. Then the other girl hit her again."

Mr Robson said the schoolgirl was left with bruises to her cheek, lips, ear, temple and forehead, and grazes on her shouders and elbows.

Mr Robson said: "She is now terrified of going out. She works for a model agency and could not work for a time afterwards because she was covered in bruising and swelling."

The court heard each defendant had a previous conviction for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Jane Waugh, defending, said the 16-year-old suffered badly from depression.

Stuart Graham said Ball had a drink problem and was a worry to her parents.

Each girl admitted assault causing actual bodily harm. The attack took place on May 26 last year.

Judge Guy Whitburn said: "Here we have another case of teenagers hanging round in a park, drinking like fish, and getting up to no good.

"It is extremely worrying and I have every sympathy with the victim."

Ball and her 16-year-old accomplice were both ordered to complete a one-year's supervion by the youth offending team.
