YOBS who stole cans of spray paint to vandalise cars and toilets in Seabrook have spoken of their alcohol-fuelled "moment of madness".

Two teenagers took the aerosol cans after breaking into a wooden shed while a friend kept a lookout.

They then jumped a fence and daubed paint on vehicles and walls during an afternoon of boozing and vandalism.

Police officers later arrested the group who volunteered to scrub away their graffiti in an act of repentance.

Mark Middleton, 19, of Parker Way, Hythe, appeared before Folkestone Magistrates' Court last Thursday to plead guilty to theft and causing criminal damage to toilets owned by Shepway District Council.

A 17 year old from Seabrook, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also pleaded guilty to theft and damaging a Citroen ZX car.

Antonia Ridge, prosecuting, said no lasting damage had been caused.

Miss Ridge said: "Middleton and the teenager jumped over a fence by Seabrook Primary School and broke into a shed to steal aerosol cans of spray paint.

"During this time another of their group kept a look out. With cans of paint in their possession they caused damage to property including toilets, two cars and a wall.

"It took some effort to remove the paint."

Middleton, who appeared without a lawyer, told the court: "It was a moment of madness, it's not something I do all the time.

"It wasn't planned at all; it was a spur of the moment thing.

"We're very sorry for what we did. We went and scrubbed the wall clean together.

"We had been drinking and that did influence what happened.

"It was just something we did on the way home, it just happened."

Ordering Middleton to pay court costs of £60 and giving him a conditional discharge for 12 months, magistrates' chairman David Burn said: "Your moment of madness has consequences."

The 17 year old will be sentenced by a youth court in Folkestone on Tuesday
