BOLTON: Car blaze yobs trap disabled man in flat

Car blaze yobs trap disabled man in flat

A DISABLED man was trapped in his home for the second time in two weeks following an arson attack.

Yobs struck in Crescent Drive, Little Hulton, just after midnight yesterday.

They smashed a window of the man's Vauxhall Zafira and set fire to a car seat.

The blaze spread to flats, one of which is occupied by the disabled man, who is in his 30s.

He was trapped in the first floor flat as the car went up in flames and smoke started to spread into the flats.

Fire crews were called and put out the flames.

The man, who was shaken but not injured, was then able to get out of his flat. His car was destroyed.

It is the second time that arsonists have targeted the flats in the last two weeks.

Two weeks ago, a window of a ground floor flat was smashed and the inside set on fire.

The occupant was out at the time and residents upstairs escaped unhurt. They have now moved out and the ground floor flat is boarded up.

Watch commander Jim Bridge said: "We're assuming these two incidents are related and this could have been very serious.

"People might think they aren't doing any serious damage because it's only a car, but it could easily have claimed someone's life."
