Firework starts blaze in postbox

FOR the second time in two weeks a postbox has been set alight in the area – this time with a firework.

Yobs put the firework in a postbox in Royal Avenue in Tilehurst on Friday causing a fire and scorching mail.

On Tuesday, August 30, another postbox in Robinhood Lane, Winnersh, was damaged by fire.

Firefighter Richard Cooper, from Dee Road station, said a few letters were totally scorched following the incident in a small box.

Royal Mail spokeswoman Sue Dakin apologised for the incovenience and said: “Acts of vandalism involving fireworks are few but where they do occur we take them very seriously.”
