Around 20 cars had their windows smashed when vandals went on a booze-fuelled rampage following a night out.

The gang of three yobs attacked the cars and also some properties in the Hateley Heath, Black Lake and Stone Cross areas of West Bromwich – leaving thousands of pounds worth of damage in their wake.

The attacks happened during the early hours on Saturday but one of the vandals left his shoe and a knife behind which residents hope will help police close the net on him.

Garden walls and the front door of a home were also reportedly damaged.

Lindsey Road resident Bill Yarnall said hundreds of pounds’ worth of damage been done to his car which was trampled over and had its windows put through.

“I can’t understand it,” he said. “I think it happened at about 6.30am on Saturday which means it happened in daylight.

“I’ve never known anything like this before.”

Mr Yarnall said one of the yobs fell when walking over his car.

“The car alarm is loud and must have given him a scare because he left behind one of his shoes and a knife which the police now have,” he said.

Menzies High School site manager Mark Jones said he saw yobs hurling bricks at cars at around 7am.

“There were three of them and I saw them smash the window of a BMW and a people carrier,” he said.

Police today confirmed that two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

Det Insp Danny Long of West Bromwich police said: “We have got a number of individuals who have been late night drinking in West Bromwich town centre.

“They have then gone about a spree, if you like, of mindless, yobbish behaviour, smashing car windows, kicking wing mirrors off, walking over vehicles and causing damage to properties.”
