Thugs turned on a man who confronted them about kicking and throwing stones at hedgehogs.
The man heard the three boys and one girl attacking the hedgehog on the redway under the H7 to Monkston, next to Wingfield Grove, at 10.40pm on Sunday.

When the man went to speak to the group, they set upon him, hitting him over the arm, face and head with a wooden plank until it snapped.

The victim suffered a black eye, cut lip, plus bruising to his left arm, nose and right cheek.

All the teenagers are white. The main offender is aged 14 to 15, 5ft 2ins to 5ft 4ins, thin with fair cropped hair.

He has prominent cheek bones and smelt strongly of alcohol. He wore a white T-shirt, dark trousers and trainers.

The second is about 15-years-old, about 5ft 5ins, heavier build than the main offender with a rounder face.

He has untidy mid-brown hair which is below ear-length and parted in the middle. He wore a camouflage-type green and grey T-shirt under a thin beige sleeveless body warmer.

He
also wore dark trousers, possibly jeans.

The final boy is aged 15 to 16, 5ft 10ins, scrawny build with fair hair with highlights in it. He was wearing a pale T-shirt, possibly faded pink, as well as dark trousers, possibly jeans.

The girl is aged 14 to 15, 4ft 10ins with a round face and wavy dark brown hair, which is a bit longer than shoulder-length. It was parted in the centre and looked like she had recently curled it and then pulled out the curls.

She wore a very pale denim jacket, dark T-shirt which was mainly black with pink and blue rings on it. She also wore dark trousers.

Anyone who knows the identity of any of the youths should contact officers at the Kingston office, via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre, on 0845 8 505 505.

If callers don't want to talk to police and don't want to give their name, they can call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
