BROSGROVE: Police clampdown

Police clampdown

A DISPERSAL order to tackle anti-social behaviour could be introduced in Rubery this week.

Bromsgrove police are looking at setting up a Section 30 order, of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003, which will give them powers to disperse groups of two or more persons and to return young people under 16, who are unsupervised and behaving in an anti-social manner in public places after 9pm, to their homes.

In June Holywell Primary School, in Gunner Lane, suffered a fire and in August police stepped up patrols in the area after a spate of criminal damage, including smashed windows, graffiti daubed on a window and scratched cars.

Councillor Peter McDonald (Lab-Waseley) said: "Myself and Colin Wilson (Lab-Waseley) are supporting it. The recent spate of damage has been caused from these unwanted people coming from outside of Rubery.

"This order is one way we can stop the trouble, and clean up our streets," he added.

A police spokesman said that officers were in the final stages of setting up the order, which could be introduced in the next few days.
