EDINBURGH: Man Robbed By Family Knife Yobs

Man Robbed By Family Knife Yobs

A KNIFE-WIELDING stepfather and son threatened to "cut up" a man before marching him to a cash machine and robbing him.

Thomas Lothian, 37, and Christopher Thorburn, 17, pulled a 12-inch blade on Ryan Kelly after pinning him against a wall.

Thorburn told their victim: "You got any money? You better give me everything if you don't want to be stabbed or cut up."

Mr Kelly handed over his wallet and £50. But the thugs wanted more and they took the victim to a cash machine, where he was forced to withdraw £200.

They tried to access more money but were denied and Mr Kelly was finally freed.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how the incident happened in the city's Newton Street on August 10 last year.

Mr Kelly later alerted police and CCTV images, together with a public appeal, helped snare Lothian and Thorburn.

The two accused, both of Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to assault and robbery. Lothian also admitted assaulting another man days later and stealing his wallet.

Judge Lady Paton deferred sentence for reports.
