YORK: Yobs, beat up York man, 21

Yobs, beat up York man, 21

Thugs viciously attacked a York man after jumping out on him from the shadows.

Joe Holmes, 21, was kicked in the head and body on his way home from a night out with friends in the city centre.

His mother, Chrissy Gilham, 44, has warned other residents in South Bank to take care. She said: "Two men who had been hiding in a small alleyway on Butcher Terrace in South Bank jumped out and viciously attacked my son.

"They threw their fists at him, kicked him to the ground, and continued to kick him in the head, ribs and legs.

"Joe thought they were after his money so he threw his bag at them.

"They hit him a bit more, then ran off.

"It was a nasty attack. Although they took his bag he said they seemed more interested in beating him up than robbing him.

"An MP3 player, which he was wearing, and his wallet and phone, which were in his pockets, were not taken.

"His glasses were knocked off during the attack so he only saw the men's outline.

"He thinks one was wearing a grey hooded top and he was about 6ft 3 inches tall. He thinks the other one was a bit shorter.

"When he came home he was really messed up and shocked that someone had done that to him.

The incident happened near Millennium Bridge.

York Police want to speak to anyone who may have seen anything at about 10.40pm on Thursday, particularly a male wearing a hooded top.
