CHATTERIS/CAMBS: Hanging basket vandal spotted on web

Hanging basket vandal spotted on web

A man who was filmed vandalising a hanging basket has been reprimanded by police after the footage was spotted on the internet.

A 26-year-old man from Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, has been issued a £80 fixed penalty fine for criminal damage after he was identified in a mobile phone clip.

An off-duty policewoman recognised her local town centre in the film while surfing the web.

The video, entitled "Skeggsy destroying Chatteris in bloom", was posted on the MySpace website but has since been removed.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: "The officer found the footage while surfing the internet at home.

"It was a very good piece of work and without it the crime may not have been detected.

"It shows we will use any means at our disposal to solve crimes, including the internet.

"Police officers are never off-duty and she showed that."
