POLICE have launched a crackdown on yobs causing trouble in part of Calderdale.
Youths have been reported drinking, damaging plants and smashing glass around the Manor Heath Park area in Halifax. Some residents have had windows smashed and cars damaged.Jean Newman, who lives near the park, said: "You see them walking across with carrier bags full of bottles."But the police have been brilliant. They've come round and organised a response."Officers have seen similar problems at Old Crossleyans Rugby Club.Alcohol has been seized and arrests made.
More than 100 teenagers have been stopped and spoken to so far.Officers have changed their shifts so that they are on patrol when most of the complaints have been made in a bid to target the problem.Acting Sergeant Alec Szoradi from Halifax's neighbourhood police team said: "The park is there for all the community to use. A small minority are spoiling it for everybody. I would ask that minority to have some consideration for the rest of the community."
